How we choose
A tablao is the traditional venue where flamenco is performed up close — a small stage, live guitar and cante, and dancers a few metres from your seat. It's a completely different experience from a theatre production or a dinner show, and it's where flamenco feels most alive. Spain has hundreds of them, and the difference between a great tablao and a tourist trap is enormous.
That's why we don't publish long lists. For each city we visit the venues, watch the shows, and recommend one — the flamenco show we'd send our own friends to. In Madrid that's an intimate tablao steps from Puerta del Sol; in Seville, a 15th-century palace courtyard; in Granada, a real cave in Sacromonte with the Alhambra in view.
